Denver, CO – Pinnacol Assurance recently announced that it has named Thomas D. Denberg, MD, as the company’s new Senior Medical Director. Dr. Denberg will play an integral role in Pinnacol’s operational strategy and goals and will lead new and existing clinical quality improvement initiatives.
“Dr. Denberg has the education, experience and expertise necessary to analyze healthcare patterns and ultimately improve care for Colorado’s injured workers,” said Dana Held, Pinnacol’s Associate Vice President of Medical Operations and Healthcare Strategy. “Throughout his career he has put patient care first, a philosophy that fits well in our culture.”
Dr. Denberg is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician executive with a background in health services research, population health, complex care management and value-based healthcare transformation.
Most recently as executive vice president of the Carilion Clinic in Virginia, Dr. Denberg had oversight responsibilities for two system-owned health plans and assisted the organization in developing a population health platform to manage financial risk while improving outcomes and lowering costs. As chief quality officer for Atrius Health in Boston, Dr. Denberg established a new ambulatory quality and patient safety department that supported value-based care through high-risk care management, variation reduction, and improvements on key quality metrics. Dr. Denberg is the immediate past-chair of the American College of Physicians’ Clinical Guidelines Committee.
Dr. Denberg completed his residency at The University of Chicago and a fellowship in health services research at the University of California-San Francisco. He earned his MD, with honors, from the University of Illinois.
