Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the National Safety Council’s recent release of the results of a new survey that found 36% of employees surveyed across the nation believe safety takes a back seat to productivity in their organizations.
The NSC noted that the findings were even worse in high-risk industries, including the construction industry, where 58% of respondents felt safety was less of a priority than finishing tasks, which was especially alarming due to that category having the highest number of occupational deaths each year. Other key findings included that 51% of construction respondents said that management does only the minimum required by law to keep employees safe, and 47% said employees are afraid to report safety issues.
