Also in the news today is U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas’ announcement that eight individuals have been indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, while others will also face additional money laundering charges in a scheme that is valued around $158 million. The defendants allegedly ran multiple pharmacies and filed claims with the Department of Labor-Office of Workers’ Compensation for creams used to treat scars, wounds, and pain that had DOL-OWCP reimbursement rates of up to approximately $28,000 per container, as well as engaged in kickback schemes with providers, among other activities.
