Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features CWCI’s recent release of its latest Regional Score Card, the seventh in its research series that looks at workers’ comp claims experience in 8 different regions of California. The latest edition focuses on the Northern part of the state, consisting of its nine northernmost counties.
Key findings included that the region accounted for just 1.1% of the state’s workforce, but 3.3% of the job injury claims. However, Northern Counties’ claims had lower average costs, and as a result made up just 2.2% of the state’s total workers’ comp paid losses. Overall, employers and claims administrators were notified of injuries and initial treatment began sooner in the Northern Counties than in other regions, and also had lower attorney involvement rates, fewer medical visits, lower rates of permanent disability, and shorter durations.
