Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features MEMIC’s announcement that it is now accepting applications for its Harvey Picker Horizon Scholarship Program for children and spouses of workers who have been seriously injured on the job.
The scholarship is named after Harvey Picker, a renowned physicist, educator, philanthropist and advocate for education. In 1992, Picker was appointed by then Governor John R. McKernan as a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Workers’ Compensation, which led to the formation of MEMIC. Picker also later served as a member of MEMIC’s Board of Directors. Spouses or children of a worker who was insured through MEMIC at the time of his or her workplace injury are eligible, and MEMIC has awarded $140,000 in scholarships since 2001. Applications are due by April 28th.
