Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s recent announcement that Work-related deaths in Colorado decreased between 2014 and 2015, continuing an overall downward trend. Private construction industry deaths, however, increased by 62% between 2014 and 2015, mirroring a national trend. Also in the news today is Vermont Governor Phil Scott’s announcement that new rates approved by the Department of Financial Regulation (DFR) become effective on April 1 will represent the first rate decrease in two years and the largest rate decrease in more than eight years. Scott noted that voluntary market loss costs will decrease by an average of 7.9%. Department of Financial Regulation Commissioner Michael Pieciak also pointed out that the improvement was driven by the commitment of business owners to improve the safety of their workplaces and the quality of medical care provided to injured workers.
