Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of CWCI’s latest Regional Scorecard, which examined data from nearly 330,000 claims filed by residents of the 9-county Bay Area for accident year 2005-2015 injuries.
Key findings from the scorecard included that San Francisco Bay Area residents accounted for 17.5% of California job injury claims but only 15.4% of claim costs, which stands in contrast to the previously released analysis on the Inland Empire/Orange County scorecard. Characteristics that likely contributed to lower claim costs included faster notifications (including lag to claims adminstrator notice that was 13 days fewer than other regions), less delay in initial treatment (which began more than a week sooner), fewer medical visits and lower treatment costs, less attorney involvement (10 percentage points below the rate in other regions), shorter claim durations, and fewer claims resulting in permanent disability.
