Chicago, IL – Jeffrey Junkas, assistant vice president, state government relations for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) recently released the following statement regarding Illinois Senate Bill 12, which was recently heard in the Senate Executive Committee:
“Senate Bill 12 (Amendment 1) which was heard in committee today is a good-faith effort at modest reforms to the state’s workers compensation system, but it still has room for improvement in order to address underlying costs for Illinois businesses.
“We commend the Senate leaders for moving in the right direction on workers compensation system changes, such as the medical fee schedule enhancements and pharmaceutical reform, and avoiding counterproductive ideas like 1970s style rate regulation.
We believe the bill still needs important improvements such as a specific drug formulary with evidence-based treatment guidelines, a longer claim evaluation period and a Medicare-based fee schedule.
“The continued collaboration of key stakeholders can bring about positive changes to Illinois’ costly and complex workers compensation system while benefiting workers and businesses alike.”
