WorkCompRecap: Cumulative Concern!

December 20, 2016 - WorkCompWire

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new CWCI study that examined cumulative trauma (CT) claims in the California workers’ comp system.

The report notes that earlier this year the WCIRB pointed out that lost time CT cases had more than doubled over the past decade to almost 18% of of all indemnity cases in 2015. As a result of the significance CWCI initiated its study. Key findings included that CT cases were far more likely to have come from the Los Angeles Basin (56% of all CT cases vs 36.5% of non-CT claims), had twice the attorney involvement rate of non-CT claims and 53% higher average claim costs, and workers claiming CT injuries were also 10 times more likely to have claimed other injuries against the same employer.
