Austin, TX – A Texas Mutual Insurance Company employee was recently recognized with the Comp Laude Award on November 5 at WorkCompCentral’s annual awards gala in Burbank, Calif. Jeremiah Bentley, senior manager of marketing and community affairs, was honored for integrity, excellence and success in the workers’ compensation industry.
“Leaders like Jeremiah are the heart and soul of Texas Mutual,” Rich Gergasko, president and chief executive officer of Texas Mutual, said. “We are grateful to him for setting an example of excellence for the entire workers’ compensation industry.”
Bentley led a team in developing “Safety in a Box,” a user-directed virtual reality (VR) experience that highlights the real hazards of working on a construction site. The program transports users to a virtual construction zone, where they encounter simulated accident scenarios that frequently occur on real job sites.
The goal of “Safety in a Box” is to enable the user to virtually experience an accident—a collapsing trench, falling from a ledge, touching an electrical line, and being hit by a falling object—creating greater awareness of job hazards and enabling users to avoid accidents in the future. Viewers can choose to experience the program in English or Spanish, making it an effective training tool for any employee.
Since creating “Safety in a Box,” Bentley has worked tirelessly to share the tool, not just among Texas Mutual’s policyholders, but also across the state and in the insurance industry. He has spoken about the tool and distributed hundreds of them at Texas Mutual Safety Summits across the state.
