Safety National Awards Safety First Grant for Creative Risk Control Solutions

December 15, 2016 - WorkCompWire

St. Louis, MO – Safety National awarded the annual Safety First Grant to three policyholders for their creative risk control solutions.

The first-place $10,000 grant was awarded to Capital Region Educational Service District 113 Workers’ Compensation Trust for implementing an easy set school bus safety brake system to alleviate the risk of soft-tissue injuries related to repetitive parking brake application.

The second-place $5,000 grant was awarded to Smithfield Foods for implementing an interlocking handrail system to eliminate injuries due to falls off the back of delivery trucks.

The third-place $2,500 grant was awarded to South Carolina Municipal Insurance Trust for reducing law enforcement use-of-force claims by adding an interactive simulator to their training regimen.

“We applaud the winners for finding ways to create a safer, more productive work environment for their employees,” said David Snodgrass, Assistant Vice President – Risk Services & Product Development at Safety National. “Repeatability is one of the criteria that we use to select our winners, so we hope that other employers with similar risks can benefit from these solutions.”

Full details on each winning risk-control solution can be found on the 2016 Safety First Grant Winners webpage.

The Safety First Grant Program is available to any Safety National workers’ compensation policyholder with a risk control solution that aligns with Safety National’s lines of coverage. The next application period will open in May 2017.
