Washington, DC – In response to the introduction of H.B. 4248, an amendment to the Workers’ Compensation Act, in Illinois’ House of Representatives, Stephen Schneider, Midwest region vice president for the American Insurance Association (AIA) released the following statement:
“AIA commends the General Assembly’s willingness to consider revisions to Illinois’ workers’ compensation system, which is burdened by a complicated medical fee schedule exceeding Medicare standards and an outdated claim filing system. H.B. 4248’s provisions to address these issues are important and can be further improved upon. We believe changes to the Workers Compensation Act should bring the Illinois system in line with Medicare reimbursement norms while gradually updating the claims process to an electronic, data-tested system.
Additionally, AIA applauds H.B. 4248’s proposed creation of the WEAR (Worker’s Compensation Edit, Alignment, and Reform) Commission. However, we encourage the General Assembly to include self-insureds and insurers in this framework so they can contribute their experience with other state workers’ compensation systems.”
In testimony delivered November 28, Mr. Schneider stated H.B. 4248’s provisions are a “step in the right direction” benefitting both employees and employers in the state.
