Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s recent announcement urging employers and workers pay special attention to workplace safety and health after 22 Tennessee workers suffered fatal job-related injuries since January.
In the month of July alone, 10 Tennessee workers lost their lives in workplace accidents, and if the year’s trend holds, the state will have seen a 36% spike in fatal accidents investigated by TOSHA in comparison to 2014. Of 2015 fatalities, only 8% occurred in the construction industry, while this year almost half of the 22 workplace fatalities occurred on construction sites. The news also comes on the heels of a recent announcement from Virginia’s Department of Labor & Industry urging vigilance as workplace deaths in the state have also surged.
