Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features a big research haul with WCRI’s release of eight separate studies that examined the impact of state reforms to the rules for physician dispensing to injured workers. The eight states included were Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
WCRI noted that as of June, 20 states have made changes to rules governing the reimbursement for physician-dispensed drugs. Findings for this report’s study states were mixed, with WCRI noting that physician dispensing was still common in many states, and while reforms saw some significant reductions in the average price per pill for the most popular drugs, WCRI also found increased dispensing of higher-priced new strengths for drugs like cyclobenzaprine and tramadol.
