Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the recent release of Liberty Mutual’s 2016 Workplace Safety Index, which ranks the top 10 causes of the most serious, nonfatal workplace injuries by their direct costs each year to provide companies with insights on areas for improving safety.
Liberty noted that “overexertion involving outside sources”, which involved lifting, pushing, pulling, holding, carrying or throwing objects ranked first among the leading causes of disabling injury, and costed businesses $15.08 billion in direct costs and accounted for nearly 25% of the overall national burden. “Falls on same level” came in second with direct costs of $10.17 billion and accounted for 16.4% of the total injury burden.
