Third Annual Valen Analytics Summit Highlights Sustainable Innovation in Insurance

January 13, 2016 - WorkCompWire

Denver, CO -(BusinessWire)- Valen Analytics, recently announced its third annual Valen Analytics Summit for 2016. The executive-level conference will feature keynote speeches from numerous industry and tech leaders, including Google Compare CEO Nicolas Weng Kan, Alan Bauer, former President of Progressive Direct, Matt Mosher, SVP of Rating Services, A.M. Best and Jon-Mike Kowall, AVP & Head of P/C Innovation at USAA. The summit will take place in Vail, Colorado from March 1-4, 2016.

The intimate, peer-forum event will tackle the issue of sustainable innovation while discussing ways in which insurers can develop their own approach to paradigm shifts and the consequences of large-scale disruption. According to a recent survey by KPMG International, while 83% of the 280 insurance executives surveyed recognize that their company’s success is tied to their ability to innovate, 74% admitted to lacking the internal core skills to drive that innovation.

“Many insurers right now are investing in technologies without a clear direction or strategy of how it will benefit them in the long-term and merge with overall business goals,” says Dax Craig, CEO of Valen Analytics. “As an industry, we need to consider that there is a fundamental issue in place preventing insurance companies from sustaining innovation and we want the Valen Summit this year to be the forum for that discussion.”

The 2016 Valen Analytics Summit speakers and panel sessions will provide insight and experiences to help insurers successfully navigate structural, cultural and technological strategies within their organizations. This year’s lineup includes:

  • Nicolas Weng Kan, CEO of Google Compare. Nicolas Weng Kan will offer key insights into how insurance leaders can think and innovate more like technology companies, including how to stay relevant with today’s consumers who find the insurance purchase experience lacking. He will also provide the latest on Google Compare and how this platform enables insurers to engage in the modern consumer experience.
  • Alan Bauer, former President of Progressive Direct. Alan Bauer was named one of the top 10 insurance innovators of the decade in 2011 for his pioneering work at Progressive Direct. Alan led the development of the industry’s first website and internet-only sale, as well as the first use of credit scoring in rating personal auto insurance. He will share his vision of how the growing adoption of analytics will shape the future of insurance and how to foster a culture of innovation.
  • Matt Mosher, SVP of Rating Services at A.M. Best. As more insurers incorporate advanced data and analytics, the methods to evaluate the impact on underwriting profitability and overall enterprise risk management are evolving as well. This keynote session will leverage case study examples to show how insurers use predictive analytics to demonstrate solid financial and risk management, and how rating and financial agencies evaluate the results.
  • Jon-Mike Kowall, AVP of P&C Innovation at USAA. How many insurance professionals have the word “innovation” in their job title? Jon-Mike Kowall heads up a strategic team at USAA focused on taking innovation to the next level. Jon-Mike will relate their process in a way that can help inform your own strategic vision, and cover the role that data and analytics play in enabling innovation. He will also break down the cultural hurdles that stand in the way of innovation within many insurance companies.
