Baton Rouge, LA – Like other states battling the opioid epidemic, Louisiana is exploring the concept of a state workers’ compensation formulary. Planners of the Sixth Annual Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference invited CompPharma President Joseph Paduda to discuss state workers’ compensation formularies and other approaches to opioid management at the upcoming conference.
His presentation will:
- Define the elements of a state work comp drug formulary
- Discuss pros and cons of the different kinds of existing and planned formularies
- Review the impacts formularies have had on opioid prescribing and work comp claims
- Discuss best-practices considerations for developing a state formulary
- Identify other key components to managing drugs with a focus on patient safety and efficacy
“Ensuring proper and timely pharmacy care for injured workers is the first priority,” Paduda said.
“Formularies are important pharmacy management tools, but they need effective utilization review and communications programs to succeed.” CompPharma’s platform on formularies can be downloaded here (PDF).
The Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference will be held January 21-22 at the Renaissance Hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For registration information, please go to http://www.iwcf.us/iwcfevents.html and scroll to Louisiana.
