Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the California Department of Insurance’s announcement that it recently arrested nine individuals involved in a complex scheme that allegedly targeted more than 230 workers’ comp insurers and self-insured employers.
According to the DOI, the owners of G&G Interpreting Services allegedly fraudulently billed more than $24.6 million for interpreting services for injured workers provided to clinics where the majority of staff spoke Spanish and there was no need. In other cases, the company billed for services to clinics where 13 treating physicians spoke fluent Spanish, or billed for more hours than clinics were open in a day, and in one case even billed for the services of an interpreter who was at the time, and remains, in prison.
