Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of the latest edition of WCRI’s CompScope Medical Benchmarks, which examines the factors behind trends in medical payments per claim in 17 states’ workers’ compensation systems, including trends in payments, prices, and utilization of medical care for injured workers.
Highlighted findings from the report included a decrease of 5% in medical payments per claim in California in 2013, likely showing the early impact of 2012 reforms. Illinois actually saw a 4.1% increase in medical payments per claim in 2013 after decreases between 2010-2012 after a fee schedule reduction. Part of the growth was found to be related to annual fee schedule updates related to the CPI. Combined data from all 17 states represent more that 60% of the market.
