Today’s issue of WorkCompRecapfeatures NCCI’s release of the latest edition of its Quarterly Economics Briefing, which examines the country’s economic outlook and its impact on workers’ compensation.
Of particular interest in this issue is the continued improvement of aggregate employment as part of the US economy’s continued recovery from the Great Recession. NCCI noted that increased employment is obviously good for premium collection, but that it may be accompanied by increased injury frequency as new workers enter the workforce. Premium increases are, however, likely to be tempered by the absence of wage inflation, with the report also pointing out that wage inflation may be seen as a positive development for workers’ comp.
