Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the Ohio BWC’s Special Investigations Department’s recent announcement that it identified $60.5 million in savings for the State Insurance Fund over the past year due to workers’ compensation fraud committed by claimants, employers and medical providers.
The announcement accompanies the release of the department’s 2015 Fiscal Year 2015 Annual Report, which includes an overview of the SID’s performance for the past year and since inception. The SID noted that of the 1,500+ cases that were closed during FY 2015, 665 were closed founded, meaning the original allegation was proven. The average savings identified among those 665 cases was more than $90,903.
