Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the DEA’s announcement of its 10th National Prescription Drug Take-Back day, which will take place September 26th from 10 am-2 pm local time. Collection sites will be available across the country so residents can return unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal. In the previous nine Take-Back events from 2010-2014, 4,823,251 pounds, or 2,411 tons of unwanted medication were collected nationwide. Find out more by clicking here!
Also up today is a Guest Post from Dr. Kim Gebrosky of Castle Medical on the basics of genetic testing for the purposes of improving drug regimens. Dr. Gebrosky covers some of the advantages of the technology and how in many cases testing has evolved from more invasive measures to a simple mouth swab. Also of note from the post is that groups like the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) have put together DNA-based dosage recommendations for a wide variety of medications.
