Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the California WCIRB’s recent release of a new report examining California’s longer than average medical payout pattern.
The report notes that California has the most prolonged workers’ comp treatment pattern in the country, and as claims mature treatment patterns evolve from more acute injury treatment to chronic issues. Key findings included that 17% of claims studied lasted three-plus years, accounting for 35% of total medical payments. Prescription narcotic share was found to grow over time, as did shares of psychoactive drugs like sedative hypnotics and anti-depressants.
