WorkCompRecap: Investigating Impact!

June 14, 2015 - WorkCompWire

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new study from Liberty Mutual and Helmsman Management Services that aimed to quantify the impact nurses have on workers’ comp claims, and determine the cases in which nurses would provide the greatest amount of added value.

The study examined medical billing and claims data from 42,000 workers comp cases, and factored in issues like claimant’s injury severity, behavioral or psychosocial characteristics, and attitudes toward work and rehabilitation. Key findings included that claims involving nurses saw 18% lower future medical costs, 26% lower overall claim costs, and 15% faster claim resolution.
