Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new report from WCRI that examines cost containment, which garnered attention from many states in the early 90’s as medical cost growth began to outpace that of other claims costs, and involves a delicate balance of limiting costs and unnecessary treatment without affecting the quality of or injured workers’ access to care.
The new report provides an understanding and inventory of initiatives adopted in 51 jurisdictions, key provisions of which include medical fee schedules, regulation of hospital charges, treatment guidelines, utilization review/management, pharmaceutical regulations, urgent care and ambulatory surgery center fee schedules and medical dispute regulations.
