Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of Helios’ 2015 Drug Trends Report, which, perhaps most significantly, noted a favorable decline in utilization of opioids and lower morphine equivalent dose (MED) per prescription and per claim. Helios found that the percentage of injured workers receiving opioid analgesics declined by 1.6 points.
Other key findings from the report included major increases in average wholesale price (AWP) inflation for generic medications, which posted a 10-fold increase since 2013, while the rate of AWP inflation for brand medications decreased slightly. Helios noted that the combined increase in AWP inflation rate, 11.4%, was the highest it had ever reported.
