Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of an update to a joint study from CWCI and the California WCIRB that found that average facility fees paid to ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) for treatment under workers’ comp in the state have declined 27% per episode and 29% per procedure since fee schedule changes mandated under SB 863 were adopted in 2013.
The followup validates preliminary results from last year and shows that cost reductions came in slightly ahead of the WCIRB’s 25% prediction from 2012. Also of note was that ASCs did not show any increases in the proportions of payments for additional services associated with the primary paid procedure, in spite of concerns that reducing facility fees might incentivize them to compensate for lost revenue.
