Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of the fourth edition of WCRI’s Hospital Outpatient Cost Index for Workers’ Compensation report, which examines hospital outpatient costs across states, identifies key cost drivers, and measures the impact of reforms.
The new edition adds another year of data to the 33-state study, covering 86% of the workers’ comp benefits paid in the U.S. Key findings included that states without hospital outpatient fee schedules saw 60-141% higher costs per episode than states with fixed-amount fee schedules, and that states with percent of charge based, or no fee schedule saw more rapid growth in outpatient payments per episode than other states.
