Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Insurance Division welcomed Ed Hamilton, a new Special Investigator in the Division’s Insurance Fraud Bureau, during a recent swearing-in ceremony. The oath of office was administered by Iowa Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart.
Hamilton is a former police lieutenant with the Ankeny Police Department. He retired from the Ankeny Police Department in February of 2015. Hamilton is a graduate of Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration.
“Insurance fraud is very costly to Iowa consumers and insurance companies,” Gerhart said. “We believe Ed will be a great asset to our Fraud Bureau and their mission to prevent and deter insurance fraud.”
The Iowa Insurance Fraud Investigation Bureau confronts the problem of insurance fraud through the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of fraudulent insurance acts in an effort to reduce the amount of premium dollars used to pay fraudulent claims. Insurance fraud costs Americans at least $80 billion a year, or nearly $950 for each family.
