Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new white paper from GENEX Services that sought out the answer to the question “where is the tipping point in a seemingly routine workers’ compensation claim?”
While the research did not yield a universal tipping point, it did find that there were several characteristics that may indicate a claim may tip, including poor initial diagnoses, doctor hopping, lack of options for modified work duty, poor employer/employee relations, psychosocial factors, and others. GENEX noted that one of the biggest challenges however is that employers and carriers aren’t aware of contributing factors until after the claim is already out of control.
