Lincoln, NE – Judge Julie A. Martin was sworn in on January 21, 2015 to serve on the bench of the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court. Judge Laureen Van Norman administered the oath of office.
Governor Dave Heineman appointed Judge Martin on December 23, 2015, following the resignation of Judge Michael K. High on November 30, 2014. The Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court is composed of seven judges who are initially appointed by the governor. A judge is then subject to a retention vote by the electorate three years after his or her appointment and every six years thereafter.
From 2004 until her appointment to the bench, Judge Martin worked as an attorney for Nolan, Olson & Stryker. Prior to that, she worked as an attorney for Rehm, Bennett & Moore. At these law firms, she has served with an emphasis on workers’ compensation, personal injury, and wrongful death.
Judge Martin is a member of the State Bar Associations of Nebraska and Iowa, the United States District Court for the State of Nebraska and Southern District of Iowa. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1991 from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln and her juris doctor degree in 1994 from Creighton University School of Law. Judge Martin graduated cum laude from both schools.
Judge Martin volunteers in the Omaha community through her church, including serving communion to the homebound and serving meals in local shelters. She is also active in her children’s youth sports activities, serving as coach and team manager.
