Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new edition of WCRI’s CompScope Medical Benchmarks that found reforms enacted in 2011 are continuing to decrease the cost of medical care for injured workers in Illinois.
Key findings included that medical payments per claim fell 20% between 2010 and 2012, likely reflecting the 30% reduction in fee schedule rates which applied to services from September 2011 on, since utilization changed little during the study period. WCRI also noted that the decrease in medical payments per claim was the steepest in all of its 16 study states, moving Illinois from among the highest states to closer to the median.
