Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new WCRI study that examined the effects of Georgia’s changes to its reimbursement rules for physician-dispensed drugs. The reforms, which became effective in April 2011, capped reimbursement amounts to the average wholesale price of the original drug product used in the repackaging process, but did not limit physicians’ ability to dispense.
The latest version of the study found that there was little change in the practice of physician dispensing after an initial post-reform drop, while the share of drug costs for physician-dispensed drugs saw another 5 percentage point decrease.
