Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the DEA’s recent announcement that it will hold its ninth and final National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on this Saturday, September 27, at over 5,200 collection sites across the country between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. local time. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
This take back day will be the last in the DEA’s schedule as the provisions of the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act, which outlines methods public and long-term care facilities can use to transfer pharmaceutical controlled substances and other prescription drugs to authorized collectors for the purpose of disposal on a routine basis, have now been implemented. The DEA noted that it now wants to give authorized collectors the opportunity to provide the service to their communities.
