Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap fills in your World Cup streaming gaps with the California WCIRB’s recent posting of videos and presentations from its annual conference. President and CEO Bill Mudge opened with a “health checkup” on the state’s workers’ comp system, noting that “vital signs” for California are mixed. Economist Jeff Michael shared his research into regional variances in California’s economic recovery, pointing out a number of trends that are likely to impact the workers’ comp system in the future.
Chief Actuary Dave Bellusci provided the WCIRB perspective on the system and connected Dr. Michael’s economic data with the WCIRB’s insurer experience data, noting that while average insurer rates continue to increase, growth rates did show signs of moderating in early 2014. Also included was a panel discussion on SB 863 implementation, with panelists sharing insights after another year of experience with the legislation.
