Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of the 2013 First Script Drug Trends Report by Coventry Workers’ Comp Services, which looked at pharmaceutical trends for workers’ comp injuries by therapeutic class, top 10 drugs, and trends by claim age for both narcotic and non-narcotic cases. The report also identifies cost and utilization patterns and their potential drivers, and suggests solutions to manage those trends.
Key findings included a decline in the number of cases with narcotic use versus 2012, decreases in utilization and spend from the prior year for Oxycontin, Vicodin and Opana ER, and that early intervention programs are impacting narcotic use.
