During our time at RIMS 2014, we had Workers’ Comp industry stakeholders participate in WorkCompWire’s “4 For 14” series, focused on what to look for this year and in the future! Here’s what Jose Tribuzio, CEO of Systema Software had to say:
1. What do you believe will be the most significant development in the Worker’s Comp industry in 2014?
For workers’ compensation, the cost of claims is always top of mind. I’ve been in the industry since 2001. The challenge I constantly hear: “How can I more effectively and efficiently manage my claims process in order to control medical, indemnity, and administrative expenses?” Technology is the key to achieve greater transparency into claims data so organizations can identify and resolve problem areas—such as high-injury areas with safety programs. Organizations want paperless, automated, and electronic work environments to boost efficiency and reduce operational costs. Replacing legacy systems once required a lot of money and a long timeframe. Today, pure web platforms are fast, flexible, and functional. They’re easier to implement, integrate, and configure to your needs, and can be obtained within a reasonable budget and timeframe.
2. What is the top issue/problem you and your organization are currently grappling with?
Our company’s software, SIMS Claims, has been in high demand, so we’ve been growing rapidly. As a result, our key challenge has been to expand our team with the right people. We want to recruit IT professionals, who are experienced in claims software and the insurance industry. But we also want innovators who fit our entrepreneurial culture. We continually invest in R&D and product development, so we need staff who can creatively problem-solve and are responsive to clients in terms of providing a high level of service. This mix of talents and traits is difficult to find.
3. Looking out 5 years, beyond obvious trends, what do you think one big change in the Workers’ Comp industry will be?
The claims process in workers’ compensation has been moving more toward specialization with groups focused on subrogation, special investigations, bill review, litigation management, etc. Each of these areas must be driven with greater automation and insight—using interfaces, business intelligence, business rules, and connectivity with common office products, such as Excel and Outlook. We want to move every area, every step along the spectrum from labor-intensive—to simple and seamless tasks that examiners don’t have to worry about anymore.
4. What is one thing you’d like to promote?
Although we launched a SIMS Insight business intelligence module last year, many organizations wanted data analysis capabilities beyond just claims. So this year, we formed a strategic alliance with Risk Sciences Group (RSG), a leading provider of RMIS solutions, to offer our respective solutions—SIMS Claims and DMITRI—as a premier end-to-end offering for claims and risk management. By teaming up, we’ve combined the robust claims-handling functionality found in SIMS Claims with the powerful data consolidation, predictive analytics, benchmarking and ad hoc reporting found in DMITRI. Clients gain deep product capabilities in both areas and tighter control over the entire claims and risk management process.
