Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new CompScope Medical Benchmarks report from WCRI that found that payments per claim for medical care in Louisiana were higher and growing faster than most states. The study noted that higher payments were primarily due to much higher hospital outpatient payments per claim as a result of conflicts in the state’s reimbursement approach, creating considerable litigation. Also in the news today is the Ohio BWC’s recent proposal of a 6.3% rate cut. If approved, it would mark the eighth consecutive year in which private sector rates have either fallen or remained flat. The reduction would result in an overall decrease in collected premiums of $91 million compared to premiums under the current rates.
