Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new report from CompPharma on the results of its research on compounded medications, which looked at their safety, efficacy, pricing, regulation, and reimbursement to help the industry better understand possible benefits and address associated risks.
According to the report, there was no clinical evidence found that topical compounds commonly used in workers’ comp are more effective than manufactured drugs, and additionally, the report identified significant safety concerns, including inconsistent regulatory oversight, inaccurate dosing in sterile preparations as well as sterility concerns, duplicate drug ingredients and excessive drug concentrations.
