Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s announcement of the release of his advisory committee’s report on workplace risks and dangers, which also included key recommendations to reduce injury, illness and deaths for the Commonwealth’s Executive Branch employees. Patrick issued executive order 511 in 2009 to address health and safety protections for Commonwealth employees because public workers are not covered by federal standards and rules. Also in the news today are workplace fatality statistics from the Oregon DCBS. Oregon’s workers’ compensation system saw 29 deaths in 2013, just less than 2012’s figure of 30 deaths, which DCBS noted continues a downward trend seen in recent years.
