Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the recent release of a new CompScope Medical Benchmarks report from WCRI that found that payments per claim for medical care in Texas grew nearly 8% in 2011, largely as a result of price increases from earlier reforms. The study has continued to monitor the impact of reforms on medical costs, particularly HB 7, enacted in 2005, on prices and utilization of medical care for injured workers. Also in the news today is the AIA, who recently applauded Indiana Governor Mike Pence for signing SB 294 into law. The new law further limits physician dispensing of repackaged drugs to employees who are injured on the job, and retains the current law’s cap on repackaged drug reimbursement enacted last year.
