Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the Reed Group’s recent announcement of the release of new guidelines for treatment with opioids, which were were independently researched and developed for them by The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM).
Key findings in the new chapter include that 80-94% of opioid trials have industry conflicts of interest, and that no comparative trial shows that an opioid is superior to another medication. Recommendations included a 50mg morphine equivalent dose as the appropriate limit for opioids, noting that prior guidance used elsewhere has been 100-120mg, which has possibly allowed fatalities to occur.
