Raleigh, NC – Governor Pat McCrory has nominated Charlton L. Allen of Iredell County as a commissioner with the North Carolina Industrial Commission. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the General Assembly.
Allen is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his juris doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He was admitted by the North Carolina State Bar in 1997. He practices with the Law Offices of Charlton Allen, PLLC in Mooresville, North Carolina and has previously practiced law in the communities of Statesville, Concord and Wilmington. Allen has prior experience in the field of workers’ compensation law, among other areas of law.
The North Carolina Industrial Commission is the quasi-judicial state agency responsible for administering the Workers’ Compensation Act and the State Tort Claims Act. The Industrial Commission is comprised of six commissioners who are appointed by the governor to serve six-year terms. The commissioners are subject to the code of judicial conduct and sit in panels of three to review appeals of deputy commissioner opinions & awards.
