CA WCIRB Elects New Committee Members at 98th Annual Meeting

March 26, 2014 - WorkCompWire

San Francisco, CA – Executives representing over 50% of the WCIRB’s regular members recently met in San Francisco for the WCIRB’s 98th Annual Meeting. At the meeting, the WCIRB membership elected new insurer members to the Governing Committee and Classification and Rating Committee to fill vacancies created by expiring terms and adopted changes to the WCIRB Constitution and Bylaws.

At the start of the meeting, WCIRB President and CEO Bill Mudge summarized some of the major accomplishments of the past year including the development of a comprehensive Senate Bill No. 863 (2012) cost monitoring plan designed to inform system stakeholders of the impact of the legislation on system costs, the successful completion of the STAR project providing insurers with more modern and more efficient tools for managing their interactions with the WCIRB, the development of a new enterprise data warehouse providing new analytical capabilities, and the significant expansion of the WCIRB’s outreach and education efforts ensuring that the WCIRB is actively listening and responding to the needs of its stakeholders.

Jan Frank, President and CEO of Pacific Compensation Insurance company and member of the WCIRB Governing Committee was in attendance and congratulated the WCIRB on its success in the past year. “As a customer, I have seen the transformation that has taken place at the WCIRB. You are running it like a business and really listening to your customers. Well done.”

At the conclusion of Mr. Mudge’s remarks, a vote of the members was conducted to replace vacancies on the Governing and Classification and Rating committees. Travelers Property Casualty Company of America was elected and Pacific Compensation Insurance Company was re-elected to serve on the Governing Committee. Insurance Company of the West was elected and Republic Indemnity Company of America was re-elected to serve on the Classification and Rating Committee.
These new committee members will serve three-year terms expiring at the Annual Meeting in 2017. The represented members also approved changes to the Constitution and Bylaws to recognize the powers and duties of the newly-created Audit Committee and to facilitate the use of electronic communications for official purposes between the WCIRB and its members.

On behalf of the membership, Mr. Mudge offered his thanks to outgoing Governing Committee member Oak River Insurance Company and to outgoing Classification and Rating Committee member United States Fire Insurance Company. “Our continued success depends on the strength of the partnership we have with our members, and we appreciate the dedication and hard work of those who volunteer their time on our committees and working groups.”
