NYSIF Announces New Director of Anti-Fraud Program

February 9, 2014 - WorkCompWire

Albany, NY – New York State Insurance Fund Executive Director Eric Madoff recently announced the appointment of George Tidona as NYSIF Director of Confidential Investigations, effective Monday, February 3, 2014.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of George Tidona as director of the Division of Confidential Investigations of the State Insurance Fund,” Mr. Madoff said. “Mr. Tidona brings more than a decade of experience as an investigator and lead prosecutor in New York State. I’m sure his leadership will benefit our strong anti-fraud program, and we look forward to working together with him to make it even better.”

“I’m happy to join the fight against workers’ compensation and disability benefits insurance fraud in New York State,” Mr. Tidona said. “The State Insurance Fund Division of Confidential Investigations has an excellent reputation for fighting fraud, and a staff of former law enforcement professionals and seasoned investigators who are very good at what they do. I am excited about getting to work with them.”

A former New York State Assistant Attorney General and former Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York, Mr. Tidona has served as senior counsel in the Enforcement Department at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”) and as trial counsel for the New York Stock Exchange Department of Regulation since 2004. His responsibilities included investigating and litigating violations of the Securities Exchange Act, and NYSE and NASD rules by member firms and associates.

Mr. Tidona previously served as assistant attorney general in the New York State Office of the Attorney General, Investment Protection & Securities Bureau from 2000 to 2004. As lead counsel, he supervised teams of attorneys and detectives, and conducted long-term civil and criminal securities investigations and prosecutions. From 1998-2000, he served as assistant attorney general for the Attorney General Claims Bureau, Division of State Counsel, where he supervised and acted as lead counsel in defense litigation of medical malpractice cases.

From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Tidona was senior counsel with Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Back, P.C., where he handled all aspects of medical malpractice defense litigation for major New York City hospitals including New York Cornell and NYU Medical Centers.

Prior to that, he served as Narcotics Unit chief, handling homicide and narcotics investigations and trials for the District Attorney’s Office, and served as an assistant special narcotics prosecutor for the City of New York.
