Milliman Study Confirms Paradigm Outcomes’ Industry Leading Results

February 5, 2014 - WorkCompWire

Walnut Creek, CA – Paradigm Outcomesrecently announced the results of an independent study conducted by researchers from Milliman, Inc., an actuarial and consulting firm, which showed Paradigm achieves 5 times better return to work rates and 40% lower lifetime costs for catastrophic and complex claims compared to similar cases overseen using conventional case management. Milliman researchers observed that cases managed by Paradigm resulted in significantly improved clinical and financial outcomes due to a distinctive approach involving clinical experts, outcome-oriented planning, data analysis and guaranteed outcomes.

“Paradigm was designed and built to manage the most complicated, volatile and expensive claims,” said Paradigm’s Chief Medical Officer Michael Choo, MD. “While these cases amount to only a small percentage nationally, catastrophic injuries represent Paradigm’s main focus. The study proves how much our specialization pays off in terms of improved quality of life for the injured person and lower costs for the payor.”

To conduct the study, researchers randomly selected a sample of 204 Paradigm cases completed between 2007 and 2012. They then compared this data to a carefully matched set of 488 cases culled from Milliman’s workers’ compensation database of more than 100,000 claims. Examined cases included traumatic brain injuries (TBI), spinal cord injuries (SCI), multiple traumas and amputations. The findings substantiate a similar 2008 Milliman study of cases completed between 1999 and 2006. By reproducing the earlier results, researchers documented Paradigm’s consistent ability to achieve better clinical outcomes and lower lifetime costs.

“By devoting ourselves to improving the lives of catastrophically injured people and ensuring the best possible recovery,” said Paradigm Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James Hudak, “we deliver the highest standard of medical management. Over time, this also results in significant savings. We’ve known this all along, which is why we always stand behind our contracts with guaranteed outcomes. The study offers a way to objectively measure and document the impact we have on behalf of our clients. No one else matches our performance, and no one else makes those promises.”

More information about Milliman’s findings and methodology may be found in the white paper summarizing the study. Please contact Kevin Turner, Paradigm’s Chief Sales Officer, at kevin.turner@paradigmcorp.com to request a copy.
