Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap ffeatures the release of a new study from CWCI that found that California workers’ compensation payors’ utilization review (UR) programs combined with the new Independent Medical Review (IMR) medical dispute resolution process approve an estimated 95% or more of all medical treatment requests.
CWCI’s analysis used actual data to determine how prevalent the use of elevated UR and IMR are in the state, what types of services are subjected to elevated UR by a physician and IMR, the distribution of medical treatment decisions by type of service, and also what proportion of treatment requests are approved, modified and denied.
