Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the Ohio BWC’s recent review of the effects of changes made in recent years to its pharmacy management program. The BWC noted that opiate doses have dropped by 10.9 million compared to 2010, prior to 2011’s introduction of BWC’s first ever outpatient medication formulary. The changes also resulted in a 27.8% drop in opioid prescriptions and a 72.9% decrease in skeletal muscle relaxant prescriptions in 2013 vs 2010.
This recent announcement comes alongside BWC’s latest pharmacy rule becoming effective on January 1st. The new regulation requires Ohio providers who write controlled substance prescriptions for chronic care usage to enroll in the Ohio Automated Rx (prescription) Reporting System (OARRS) in order for BWC to cover the prescriptions.
