Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new CompScope report from WCRI that found that medical costs per workers’ comp claim in Indiana were 17% higher than typical study states, and from 2006 to 2011, grew at an average of 8% per year – faster than other states studied.
WCRI noted that House Bill 1320, which enacted a hospital fee schedule effective in July 2014, addressed hospital costs, which were a key driver of the higher medical payments. Interestingly, the report found that overall costs per claim were actually lower than in many of the study states, as lower indemnity payments offset higher medical costs.
