Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features a new CWCI analysis of OSIP data reflecting the experience of private self-insured employers who covered 2.12 million California employees and 77,557 claims in 2012. CWCI noted that claim frequency remained relatively unchanged in 2012, with a slight increase in medical-only frequency offset by a reduction in indemnity claim frequency.
CWCI also reviewed more developed loss data from 2nd through 5th reports on 1999 to 2011 claims and found that while severity had bottomed out post reform in CY 2005, it then began to increase rapidly, so while claim volume has declined and frequency has been flat, total losses measured at 24, 36, 48, and 60 months have continued to trend upward.
